Job Description:
Total Force Alliance is seeking a highly skilled AWS DevOps Engineer to support the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Military Community & Family Policy (MC&FP) program based in Alexandria, VA. As a DevOps Engineer, you will design, develop, implement, and optimize AWS cloud infrastructure as well as design and implement automation processes to ensure the secure and scalable deployment of applications and services in compliance with Zero Trust and DoD standards.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Design & Implementation: Architect and deploy scalable AWS cloud infrastructure, ensuring robust and secure environments for our applications and services
- Develop and implement automation processes using Terraform, adhering to Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles to streamline resource provisioning and lifecycle management across development, staging, and production environments
- Kubernetes Administration: Manage and maintain Kubernetes clusters in production, ensuring high availability and performance
- Serve as the primary contact for engineering teams, guiding the implementation of cloud solution designs and working closely with development, security, and cloud engineering teams
- Implement encryption, key rotation, and access control measures to safeguard sensitive data, ensuring compliance with best practices
- Utilize the AWS Well-Architected Framework to develop secure, cost-efficient, and highly available cloud-native architectures, modernizing existing workloads
- Collaborate with engineering, system admins, and DevOps teams to diagnose and resolve high-level cloud application and connectivity issues
- Ensure application performance, uptime, and scalability, maintaining high standards of code quality and thoughtful design
Required Qualifications:
- Active TS/SCI security clearance
- AWS Certified DevOps Engineer
- Minimum of five years of experience supporting cloud architecture and infrastructure in DevSecOps development environments
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or related field (4 additional years of experience can be considered in lieu of a degree)
Preferred Qualifications:
- One or more AWS certifications (e.g. AWS Certified Solutions Architect, AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, AWS Certified Advanced Networking, AWS Certified Database, AWS Certified Machine Learning, etc.)
- 5+ years of experience with CI/CD tools and practices, including GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, or Azure DevOps Pipelines
- 5+ years of experience with AWS services (IAM, VPC, Route53, Lambda, S3, EC2, RDS, IoT Core, etc.) as well as IAM policies, security groups and network security
- 5+ years of experience with Infrastructure as Code, including AWS CDK, Terraform, and/or Ansible
- 3+ years of experience with containerization and container orchestration, including Docker, Docker Compose, Kubernetes, or ECS
- 3+ years of experience with disaster recovery
- 2+ years of experience in TypeScript, Python, or OOP, writing and reviewing code for enterprise scale applications
- Experience in implementing industry best practices with accounts and IAM
- Experience in aligning AWS accounts to internal cost centers and/or invoices
- Experience with system design with focus on scalability and reliability
- Experience with DevOps monitoring, logging, and alerting, including CloudWatch or Prometheus
- Knowledge of security best practices, compliance requirements, compliance automation and continuous monitoring
- Infrastructure as Code and configuration management tools
- Experience with AWS GovCloud, C2S, or SC2S
- Secrets management tools (AWS Secrets Manager, Vault)
- Disaster recovery and backup strategy exposure
- Experience in Linux system administration, including in-depth knowledge of command line utilities, system optimization, and security
- Proven ability to balance technical needs against cloud costs while scaling new technologies to meet project requirements
- Master’s degree
